Hot insulation

Hot insulation shall generally be applied to equipment and piping operating at 60 degrees Celcius and above, except when heat loss is desired. However, where heat loss is restricted, full heat conservation insulation shall be applied, even where the operating temperature is below 60 degrees Celcius.

General Application Method
  • Cleaning Rust and dust and other foreign material with a wire brush.
  • Application hot service material with one side checker wire mesh.
  • Stitching joints tightly with 20gauge lacing wire.
  • Jacketing with Aluminum sheet properly grooved at the edge of the sheet for waterproofing and for reinforcement with self-tapping sheet metal screw.
The material used in hot insulation work
  1. Light resin bonded wool: Used up to a temperature of 900 degrees Celcius.
  2. Calcium silicates: Used up to a temperature of 1000 degrees Celcius.
  3. Fibre glass wool: Used up to a temperature of 450 degrees Celcius.
  4. Ceramic wool: Used up to a temperature of 1250 degrees Celcius.
